About the Doctors

Heather M.  Carr, DDS, MS 

Dr. Carr was born and raised in Mitchell, South Dakota. She moved to the Twin Cities to attend the University of Minnesota where she earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Genetics and Cell Biology in 1997, and her D.D.S. degree in 2002. She continued her education at the U of M and earned her Master of Science Degree and her Orthodontic Specialty Certificate in 2004. Dr. Carr is a member of Omicron Kappa Upsilon, a national dental honor society. Dr. Carr has received her Diplomate certification from the American Board of Orthodontics (ABO).

Dr. Carr and her family enjoy hiking, biking, exercising, gardening, cooking and traveling.

James E.  Cutcliffe, DDS 

Dr. Cutcliffe was born and raised in Chelmsford, Massachusetts. After receiving his D.D.S. degree in 1972 from the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill, he attended the University of Minnesota for two years and received his Orthodontic Specialty Certificate. He spent the following three years at the University of Kentucky in Lexington, teaching in the department of Orthodontics. He returned to Minnesota in the summer of 1977 and became an associate of our practice. Dr. Cutcliffe has received his Diplomate Certification from the American Board of Orthodontics (ABO).

Some of Dr. Cutcliffe’s interests include family vacations with his wife and son, reading, astronomy, kayaking, hiking the Canadian Rockies and walks with his wife and family dogs.

Paul B.  Gersmeyer, DDS 

Dr. Gersmeyer was born and raised in St. Paul, Minnesota. He attended the University of Minnesota for both his undergraduate education and D.D.S. degree. Dr. Gersmeyer received his Orthodontic Specialty Certificate in 1981 after completing a two-year orthodontic residency at the University of Minnesota. Dr. Gersmeyer is American Board Eligible.

Dr. Gersmeyer and his wife enjoy golf, tennis and many of the other outdoor activities available in Minnesota.

Christopher S.  Hipp, DDS, MS 

Dr. Hipp was born and raised in Mendota Heights, Minnesota. He attended St. Thomas Academy and received his B.A. degree from the University of St. Thomas in 1981. He went on to study dentistry at the University of Minnesota, receiving his D.D.S. degree in 1985. Dr. Hipp then began his orthodontic residency training at the University of Nebraska where he received his Master's Degree and Orthodontic Specialty Certificate. Dr. Hipp has received his Diplomate Certification from the American Board of Orthodontics (ABO).

Dr. Hipp has many interests and hobbies, but he particularly enjoys the many outdoor activities Minnesota has to offer.

Mark R.  Kauppi, DDS, MS 

Dr. Kauppi was born and raised on the Iron Range in Virginia, Minnesota. He attended Mesabi Community College and the University of Minnesota, Duluth for his undergraduate studies. He received his D.D.S. degree in 2000 from the University of Minnesota School of Dentistry.

Dr. Kauppi continued his education, earning his Master of Science/Orthodontics Degree and Orthodontic Specialty Certificate from the University of Minnesota. Dr. Kauppi has received his Diplomate Certification from the American Board of Orthodontics (ABO).

Dr. Kauppi and his wife Sheila make their home in the Twin Cities area, where they continue to enjoy Minnesota's great outdoors.

Chad H. Kelly, DMD 

Dr. Kelly was born and raised in St. Paul, Minnesota. He received a B.A. degree in Molecular Biology from the University of Colorado in 1994. Dr. Kelly attended Tufts University School of Dental Medicine in Boston, Massachusetts, where he earned his D.M.D. degree in 1998. In his final year of dental school, Dr. Kelly was inducted into Omicron Kappa Upsilon, a national dental honor society. He received his Orthodontic Specialty Certificate from New York University in 2000. Dr. Kelly has received his Diplomate Certification from the American Board of Orthodontics (ABO).

Some of Dr. Kelly’s hobbies include running very long distances, skiing, fishing and spending time with his family.

Isaac N.K. Liu, DDS, MS 

Dr. Liu was born and raised in Taipei, Taiwan. He received his D.D.S. degree from Taipei Medical College in 1980. Dr. Liu came to the University of Minnesota for further graduate studies in 1988, receiving his Master's Degree and Certificate in Pediatric Dentistry in 1990. He continued as a member of the teaching staff at the University of Minnesota Dental School while taking his second specialty, receiving his Orthodontic Specialty Certificate two years later. Dr. Liu remained a full-time faculty member at the University of Minnesota until the summer of 1994, at which time he joined Orthodontic Care Specialists, Ltd. Dr. Liu has received his Diplomate Certification from the American Board of Orthodontics (ABO).

Dr. Liu enjoys tennis, carpentry and spending time with his family.

Timothy J. Montgomery, DDS 

Dr. Montgomery was born and raised in northwest Iowa. He attended the University of Iowa where, after receiving his B.S. degree, he earned his D.D.S. degree in 1975. He then served as a general practice resident at the V.A. Hospital and at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. Dr. Montgomery returned to the University of Iowa where he received his Orthodontic Specialty Certificate in 1978. Prior to joining Orthodontic Care Specialists, Ltd., he practiced for four years in Iowa City. Dr. Montgomery has received his Diplomate Certification from the American Board of Orthodontics (ABO).

Dr. Montgomery’s interests include golf, cycling and other outdoor activities.

Gregory K.  Ross, DDS 

Dr. Ross was born and raised in the Twin Cities. He attended the University of Minnesota for his undergraduate and dental training, receiving his D.D.S. degree in 1990. Following his graduation, Dr. Ross received the Dentist Scientist Award Fellowship and worked on various research projects at the University of Minnesota. He received his Orthodontic Specialty Certificate from the University of Minnesota in 1995. In April of 2005, Dr. Ross received his Diplomate certification from the American Board of Orthodontics (ABO).

Dr. Ross and his wife Kirsten enjoy golfing, catamaran sailing and scuba diving. He also enjoys playing with his four kids and his golden retriever, Bracer.
